A surprise discovery last week, when heading to a slightly more upmarket supermarket for some specific items, and just happened to drive past it, so decided to call in a few days later, a small place, but with some really good viewing of birds, and the flight shows (which i really need more practice at) and all the staff seemed really nice, will definitely be visiting again

Well, 7th visit to Chester Zoo in the last year, think we can safely say we like this place This time we spent about 2 hours at the Jaguar house, but that pesky melanistic one still won’t come outside…

and of course we had to head over and see the new arrival of the giant otter, who for his size is FAST… managed to get a couple of photos before he went and hid at the other side of his enclosure

and i missed Ben Fogle, who was pretty much stood behind me (although about 10 ft behind me) while i was photographing the lions

Well the following day we went back – as the tour included a visit to the safari park again, which we decided to use the next day, sadly we missed the tigers being fed (we had entered the lions before we noticed what was happening) but got some great photos of the lions being fed

Well, for our joint birthdays, Raych & I went on a safari, in a safari park.. we were driven around by Mike, who seemed to know everything about everything, lots & lots of photos were taken, around the other people in the Jeep so some came out with black bands, heads & windows in the way, some also had strange angles… All of which i fixed (mostly) in post

So another trip to Chester Zoo and as the name suggests this was the 5th visit. The aim was to get the animals we hadn’t on previous trips, this included the Jaguars, Spectacled Bears, Rhinos. Well we got 2 out of the 3, and still couldn’t get the black jaguar, and the bears were in hiding, but we also got the usual suspects, the tigers and leopards

Well we went for a little trip to Martin Mere again (part of the WWT) 2 of the things on our list were the “baby” beaver and the otters, plus the birds that are out on the actual Mere – the baby beaver we couldn’t get that great photos of because he was behind glass, but the otters didn’t fail us… well they did, by moving so fast we struggled to get many decent photos and ended up just aiming and hoping… anyway as always click on the photo below to go straight to the gallery (or click gallery over on the right to see all the albums)

Well this weekend we went a wondering around a local country park – mostly to try and get some waterfall photos… this part was successful, there are waterfall photos, not brilliant, but have a better understanding on what needs to be done next time, but on the way back to the car, we saw a cormorant at the side of the water… who happily posed for us till we got bored…

Well the other week, off we went to the Welsh Mountain Zoo, which lived upto it’s name…. It’s in Wales, it’s on a mountain and it’s a zoo… i think we’ve been spoiled by having Chester Zoo so close, it wasn’t bad but i felt the enclosures where all a little TOO small… got some OK photos…
